Students collecting data (number of species and individuals) on their study area |
On February 12th we had our big planting day. Karleen Vollherbst from US Fish and Wildlife Service helped us plant ~ 300 plants in our native areas. The kids added compost to the soil, planted all plants and made signs for the native areas. The kids also created a gravel path around the planting areas. We got a lot done. It was a very exciting day.

Below you will find pictures, with short descriptions, of the kids getting ready for the science fair. The younger kids (k-1) studied space, 2-4 graders studied borax crystals/scientific method, weather and engineering, and 5-6 graders studied climate change (Earth Science) and engineering.
Owls learned about the planets in our system through books and experts. Two aerospace engineers visited the class and helped them make a summary poster. |
Kids making space helmets. |
Owls making models of the solar system. |

Unfortunately I wasn't able to take pictures during the science fair. If anyone has pictures of the kids presenting their projects please email me so that I can add them to the blog. : )
